2011 Holiday Season Party Trends!
Hello Avi-ously Delicious Bloggers,
Now that we have bypassed Halloween, we have officially been thrusted into Holiday Season, 2011. We know that this time of year can be stressful, especially if you are planning one or several holiday celebrations. Stress no more...we are here to help you! One of our favorite things to do is to bring you, our followers and patrons, the newest and most up-to-date holiday party trends of the year.
First let's begin with a classic-The Holiday Cocktail. Holiday cocktails are a must at any holiday gathering (this can include non-alcoholic cocktails too!) and having one signature drink can be a fun way to bring your guests together. The holidays bring about a lot of color, so make sure your chosen beverage fits the bill. This year, pink, orange and red signature drinks will be on the rise. Our favorite pick this holiday season is a Berry Champagne Cocktail and it's super easy to make. All you need is champagne, cranberry juice, ruby red grapefruit infused vodka and some fresh cranberries for garnish. Whether it be Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas or New Years, this cocktail is tasty, easy and delicious!
Another wonderful way to celebrate the holidays is through decoration. We recently came across a simple, yet beautiful centerpiece idea in Good Housekeeping: The Fruity Candle. Your first step is to thinly slice citrus fruits (1/8 inch thick). Place a wire cooling rack on a baking sheet and lay out the pieces of thinly sliced fruit on the rack. Put the cookie sheet and rack in the oven on 250 degrees F for 2 hours or until the fruit is completely free of moisture. Using a glue gun, glue the pieces of fruit around the base of the candles, forming a band of fruit slices. You can add an additional touch by gluing dried cranberry clusters to the fruit slices. For the original article, please visit: Holiday Candle Decoration.
Next on our list, is the upgraded buffet table. Food is obviously the main attraction at holiday gatherings, but this year brings about a twist to the once boring buffet table. This year, hosts and hostess will be inviting their guests to partake in the interactive appetizer bar. This is a really fun way for your guests to interact with each other and to get to know each other. The idea is to set up all the ingredients and fixings for your favorite holiday appetizers and invite your guests to make their own. Some fun ideas include a Chocolate-Dipped Strawberry Bar, Taco Bar and, of course, the ever famous
cookie-decorating bar.

1/2 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups sugar
4 egg yolks
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoons salt
2 1/4 cups sifted cake flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon white vinegar
Frosting
3 tablespoons flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
8 ounces of either 62% dark chocolate or white chocolate
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups confectioners sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa (for white chocolate, omit cocoa)
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Cupcakes: Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Line 2 standard 12-cup cupcake tins with baking papers and set aside. Mix the cocoa, food coloring and vanilla together in a small bowl and set aside. Beat the butter and sugar together in a large bowl, using a mixer set on medium-high speed. Add the yolks and beat for 1 more minute. Add the cocoa mixture and beat to combine. Stir the buttermilk and salt together and add it in thirds, alternating with the flour mix. Mix the baking soda with the vinegar and blend into the batter. Fill each cupcake tin with 3 tablespoons batter, and bake until a toothpick inserted in the cupcake center tests clean-about 15 minutes. Cool in the pans on a wire rack for 15 minutes. Release cakes and cool completely before frosting.
Frosting: Whisk milk, flour, and salt in a small saucepan over medium high heat until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble- 1 to 2 minutes. Transfer to a small bowl and let cool. Melt either dark chocolate or white chocolate. Set aside to cool. Beat butter, confectioner's sugar, and cocoa together until light and fluffy. Use immediately. Feel free to add any toppings you would like, such as fresh fruit, Hershey Kisses, Hot Tamales or slivered almonds.
